Trip to Shivasamudram & Talakad: Photo Blog
Shivasamudram:
120Km from Bangalore, located in Mandya district of Karnataka is the Shivasamudram hydro electric power station and the twin falls Gaganachukki & Bharachuki, 1 km away from each other. Some of the distance can be covered taking the new highway to Mysore but after the detour near Malavalli the road is not as good and quite bumpy. There are no good resturants at the destination so eating at Yaathri Nivas, Kamat on Mysore road, would be a great idea before reaching there.
The trip was a blast nevertheless with a bus full of kids (about 15 kids) and about 10 adults. We rented a mini-bus and had a whale of a time with singing & dancing non-stop.
The falls plunges 300-350 feet down and during the rainy season is in full spate. The hydro-electric power station was inaugurated in 1902, supposedly the first one in Asia.
I shall let the photos do the talking.

Talakad:
Talakad is close by and can be reached taking more bumpy roads…but is worth the ride anyway. A historic site, next to the Kaveri river.
Sand , sand and more sand everywhere burying temples and monuments. The Shiva temples are beautiful The imposing temple of Vaidyeshwara along with 4 others… Arkeshwara, Vasukishwara or Pataleshwara, Saikateshwara or Maraleshwara and Mallikarjuna are the Panchalingams

River Kaveri In Talakad

Kids loved playing in the river and taking those basket boats (called "Theppa" in Kannada).
