She walks the Street

She walks the Street

The street light spread its glow

Under it she stood

A reason to live

Was all she understood

From where she came

Or where she went

Not knowing why

Here she was sent

A pimp threw her out

For want of more clout

A mom who traded her

For nothing but a smoke

A dad who ran away

To claim his own fort

She hopes to find her life

Somewhere on this vicious street…

Of men who came and went

This body of mine is for rent

She often cried, for she could vent

Her cheap tears lost in the rain

Nobody knew how much in pain

Her numbed heart and her soul

Was lost a long time back

She prayed she would find

That one true love to take her out

The coke she smoked was gone awhile

Nothing now brought a smile

Battered and bruised night after night

Her life was spent on those streets…

If only I could lay down dead

She often wished out aloud

For what use am I to this world

A battered body a long time sold

Not even ten I was when

The pain I was inflicted then

Thrown out for vultures to feed

From then till now I roam the streets

My purse is all I clutch

Of dignity I know not much

Of broken dreams for life is such…

My shadows gone awhile

In shame I stand all alone!
